.A New Year: Grief and Keeping On

We laid my brother Anthony to rest on the thirtieth of December.

There is no neat way to step from a graveside into a new year.

Grief does not check the calendar.

It comes with you.
It sits beside you.
It eats at the table.
It waits in the quiet moments when the noise dies down.

Anthony was my brother.
He was part of my bones.

That does not change because the year has.

The Graft Continues

January is coming fast.

I go back to university in the middle of the month with my head down and the graft on.

I have four thousand words to hand in for my creative writing degree.

Life keeps moving whether you feel ready or not.

Some days you move with it.
Some days you let it drag you a bit.

Both count.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has read my work, supported the books, sent kind words, or simply taken the time to listen.

It matters more than you might think.

Especially now.

Looking at 2026

To you reading this, wherever you are, I hope 2026 treats you fair.

I will not wish you a perfect year.

Just a real one.

One with moments of light.
Moments of laughter.
And enough strength to get through the hard bits when they turn up uninvited.

Take care of each other.
Hold your people close.
And keep going when the road feels heavy.
