If you're wandering through Hội An's famous Nguyễn Hoàng Night Market, don't just look for the colourful lanterns.

Look for Mun.

His tiny mobile bar, proudly carrying the unforgettable name Bar Horse Slut, sits beside the Hoài River on An Hội Islet, right in the middle of one of the busiest evening spots in Vietnam. Every night the market fills with visitors browsing silk lanterns, street food, local crafts and souvenirs while traditional wooden boats glide along the river below.

Then you spot the sign.

Most people stop to laugh.

Then they stay for a drink.

It's marketing genius.

Forget polished cocktail lounges with expensive furniture and dress codes.

Mun has created something far more memorable.

A handful of red plastic stools.

An ice box packed with cold beer.

A cocktail shaker.

A smile that never seems to disappear.

And one of the best people-watching spots in Hội An.

Order an ice-cold Larue or Tiger, sit back and watch the world stroll past.

The river glows with floating lanterns.

Street musicians drift in and out of earshot.

The market buzzes with life, yet somehow everything still feels relaxed.

You could spend hours here without looking at your watch.

If you're lucky enough to visit on one of Mun's karaoke nights, the atmosphere changes completely.

What begins as a few songs soon becomes an open-air singalong, with travellers and locals cheering each other on. It isn't polished.

It isn't rehearsed.

That's exactly why it works.

Nobody cares whether you can sing.

They care whether you're enjoying yourself.

Mun keeps the drinks flowing, the music playing and the laughter coming.

By the end of the evening you'll probably have arrived as a customer and left feeling like an old friend.

That's something money can't buy.

Bar Horse Slut isn't the smartest bar in Hội An.

It isn't the biggest.

It doesn't pretend to be.

What it offers is something far more valuable.

Character.

Humour.

Conversation.

And a front-row seat to one of Vietnam's most magical riverside evenings.
